Norwich Union expects “Pay As You Drive”™ insurance to benefit
the following driver types:

• Urban/suburban dwellers who use public transport to commute to work

• Drivers who don’t need to use their car during morning rush hour in urban areas where 20/30/40 mph roads dominate

• Motorists who typically drive less than 8,000 miles a year

• Drivers who mainly use motorways and/or dual carriageways

• Second car owners

Rates were developed to reflect key learnings from
Norwich Union’s pilot involving 5,000 motorists,

including:

• Driving during a morning weekday rush hour is 50 per cent more likely
to result in an accident than driving at weekends or before midnight

• Accidents are more likely to occur between midnight and 5am than during the day

• Motorway driving is up to 10 times safer than driving on low speed urban roads

Other features of “Pay As You Drive”™ insurance

“Pay As You Drive”™ insurance uses technology to provide a number of other important

benefits in addition to savings on premiums, including:

• Emergency Safety Button

As part of “Pay As You Drive”™ insurance, an emergency assistance button is

installed in all cars. In the event of a breakdown or accident, motorists can

immediately speak to someone who is able to locate the car and can provide help.

This security feature is expected to appeal to many motorists, especially

inexperienced or solo drivers and parents with children in the vehicle.

• Satellite Navigation

“Pay As You Drive”™ insurance technology means that customers also have

access to a 30 day free trial of Smartnav, the satellite navigation provided by

Norwich Union’s partner Trafficmaster. Customers can choose later to purchase

an optional upgrade on either a pay-as-you-go basis for less than Ł1 per journey,

which is ideal for low users, or an annual subscription for regular users.

• Recovery of Stolen Vehicles

The technology within the car allows Norwich Union to locate the vehicle should a customer report it stolen. This may

allow the police to recover the vehicle quickly and prevent damage to the car.
